This is a first for this site... A page devoted to a club I've never been to in Ibiza, but one which I'm planning to hit big time in 2006!
It's not that I never wanted to go to Cocoon, but on the rare occasions I made it out on a Monday night (okay, every Monday night one year), I'd generally troll down to Manumission to be with my friends on the island, and send interesting text messages from the toilets to my friends back home in London... On the nights I didn't go to Manumission, I was generally too buggered from a day at DC-10 to contemplate washing myself sufficiently to go to a club full of fresh-faced technoheads, bouncing around as only the Germans can.
Still, last year (2005, if this web page is being read my online archaeologists in the 31st Century) the feedback from everybody who went to Cocoon was that this was the year that Cocoon not only had its finger on the pulse of what was happening musically, but the rest of its hand wrapped in a vice-like grip around all discerning clubbers' necks! Never being afraid to jump on a moving band-wagon, I made plans to go to Cocoon's 2005 closing party... Unfortunately, for reasons that escape me, I managed to miss a flight that would have landed me on the island in time for Cocoon's closing, and so missed out on what I'm told was one of the best closing parties and seasons of any club... ever... At least that's what my no-good Italian roomie, who didn't miss the party, told me for days afterwards until I did the only rational thing and stopped speaking to him for the rest of the month.
When Cocoon made its UK debut in March this year (2006, archaeologists, keep up), trusting said roomie's judgement (and wanting to apologise to him for not speaking with him for two weeks of his holiday), I shelled out on tickets to the party at London superclub The End, and thanks to DJ Sven Väth, and I guess my occasionally perfect flatmate Stefano, had the best night out I have ever had in a club in London! Seriously, I don't know what I've been doing (all) these years when out clubbing (aside, I guess, from spending too much time on the gay scene), but I have never had this much fun outside Ibiza.
And that, if you're still paying attention, is why Cocoon's listed before I've been to the party in Ibiza.
And if you see me out clubbing this summer, and I've stopped speaking with Stefano for any reason, just smack me one...
