I generally only get to write these things when I'm hunched over the disco desk at home in London, so sometimes it's easy to forget why I'd drag myself down to Circo Loco (a.k.a. DC10) Monday after Monday, when my body would normally be crying from a punishing lack of sleep (even by my standards). It's as easy to explain though, since this is possibly the best party in Ibiza, being so painfully hip you could cut yourself, but never quite losing that edge which scares away all but the lowest of the low.
Opening at 6am on Monday mornings, when Space is required to stay closed after its 22 hour We Love... parties, Circo Loco is the ultimate in trashy afterhours clubbing, even by Ibiza standards.
I first started going regularly during 2001, as this was the afterhours club for Scandal (I hope Morten knows how much I have to thank him for that first visit). 2002 wasn't such a good year, as an excessive lack of sleep over the weekend was starting to take its toll. When I did make it down, the atmosphere was generally good, though prices had gone up substantially since the previous year.
I did manage to avoid some heavy-handed police action one day, when on a mission I stayed on despite flagging bones, leaving my friends to walk out and straight into the hands of a police entrapment action and strip-searching (yup, bollock-naked). Not entirely sure of the legality of this, but with the police in Ibiza you tend not to argue...
Even though the party is called Circo Loco, nobody ever asks for this, as it's universally known by the venue's name, DC 10.
