CARRY ON 2006 OPENING PARTY... 4 JULY 2006... CARRY ON 2006 OPENING PARTY... 4 JULY 2006!

Space
Tuesday

Website: manumission.com

The most infamous of the after-parties at Space is Manumission's Carry On every Tuesday morning.

My first visit to Space was in 2001, with Morten and his Norwegian posse, for Thursday morning's Matinée Group, followed a few weeks later by the Manumission Carry On, this time with Fido and his friends. My experience at the latter almost put me off Space, and definitely gave me second thoughts about going back to Carry On! For me, this was the straightest club environment I'd been to since Hollywood's in Romford more than a decade earlier, and post-Privilege I was feeling a wee bit tired and fraught, finding the security aggressive (not really, though they did take my collection of Kinder surprises off me) and the crowd aggressively drunk (okay, aggressively straight and drunk)... Somehow, however, I ended up going again...

And again...

And again...

And again...

What happened was that after the penultimate Manumission of 2001, a wild collection of encores from Colin Peters left us in no mood for the party to end, so it was no surprise that I ended up at the Carry On at Space afterwards. This was such a good party, that I was left wondering why I'd had such a bad experience there in July? The following week, I was back for the final Carry On Manumission of 2001, when me and Robert Ubërchick proved that you're never too old to party all night long, staying at Privilege until it closed at noon, Space till close at 7, called in at Bora-Bora, and still arrived at Los Pasajeros fresh as daisies for dinner that night! I also amazed myself by managing to carry a comatose Robert past security and into the loos without arousing any suspicion... maybe the doctor's surgical cap I was wearing fooled them into thinking I was a medic?

For 2002, I had no hesitation in going to almost all of the Carry Ons, skipping the Manumission parties at Privilege during August when the invites dried up, but still going to the after-parties at Space. For whatever reason, I ended up wearing a beardy-wig on my head throughout the final Carry On Manumission at Space... It made sense at the time!,

2003 saw Manumission's guest lists going out of the window along with a lot of their local support, so neither the Privilege nor Space parties held much attraction... In 2004 I went to neither.

I've made up for in it 2005 though! And again with the wigs... The latest was a silver afro... As always, it made sense at the time! The only downside, as always, is the price of a pint at Space...
